1979 Squire Shop
Unlimited Hydroplane Restoration Project
Update #21 (March 28, 2017)
The Emperor's New Clothes...
Is it me, or does the engine cowling look a little "naked" now?
As you can see, there is much evidence of this ever being from The Squire Shop anymore.............but trust us, it will be again!
This week the team built the jig to start laying out the station frames to the engine stringers, which is a huge step towards getting ready to start rebuilding the boat. Think of it as one of those wood model kit skeleton dinosaur projects.............the entire thing is made up of small assemblies, and then you put them all together to create the shape. Before you know it, you have an assembled model...............same kind of thing here. We are getting ready to build the assemblies of the boat, so things should start picking up real soon.
As I mentioned last week, we are now in negotiations to reacquire the original vertical stabilizers.........so wish us luck. I took a ton of pictures today of the Circus Circus skins, so that i can compare them to the set we are hoping to obtain.............they look virtually identical in design. The only differences are the paint schemes.........but we'll fix that in due time.
The engine cowling is nearly complete in terms of repairs, just a few minor things to clean up and ready for primer. once we feel comfortable with the results, we will begin making the mold to create a new part for the Circus Circus project down the road.
There are a couple more videos added below as well, so continue on with the weekly tour of the progress.
Good times ahead for sure!
